The company was founded in Barcelona by Manuel Vaqué Ferrandis in 1953 to market a fountain pen of his own manufacture. Vaqué had started making nibs in his workshop as early as 1942, but in 1955 he decided to launch his Inoxcrom 55 fountain pen, the first product of his new company, whose name was derived from INOXidable and CROMado. In 1965 he launched his first ballpoint pen, also known as '55'.
For the next 60 years Inoxcrom maintains a product catalogue focused on affordable fountain pens, pens and other office supplies. During this period the company was able to market its products in more than 80 countries, establishing offices in Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. The pens and fountain pens INOXCROM became one of the favorite gifts for Spanish children of the 80's and in 2003 was one of the 10 brands that led the sector in the world and the first in Spain. In those years, the company produced around 150 million units annually, 70% of its foreign turnover.
After Vaqué's death in 2003, the company enters a serious economic crisis. In February 2009 the sisters María, Empar and Eulalia Vaqué, majority shareholders of the company founded by their father, sell to the businessman Alberto Novel 79.5% of the company for just one euro. Novel undertakes to guarantee a professional management of the company, but sells it to Sebastià Cotet two months later. This one, in November of the same year, declares the company insolvent, with a debt of 24 million euros and fires 105 workers.
