The Platinum 3776 Century Travia is the next generation of Platinum's most iconic series. Its name blends Tradition and Via (Latin for "path"): a road that starts from Japanese writing heritage and runs straight into the future. This regular edition in Onyx Black brings together the acclaimed FLAF nib, a long body with a metal balancer and the Slip & Seal anti-drying mechanism.
Platinum 3776 Century Travia: a lineage since 1978
In 1978 Platinum created the #3776 with novelist and pen collector Haruo Umeda, aiming to build Japan's finest fountain pen. The name comes from the height of Mt. Fuji (3,776 m). The #3776 Century followed in 2011 with the Slip & Seal mechanism, and the #3776 Century Decade in 2022 introduced a flat-top design and a new nib. In 2026, the Travia brings the best of all of them together.
The FLAF nib: writing that floats like a feather
FLAF stands for "Float Like A Feather". It is a 14K gold nib with ruthenium plating and a sharper tip than the classic #3776 Century nib. Writing feels soft and smooth, as if gliding across the paper.
- Softer flex: it bends with less force than the #3776 Century "F" nib.
- Linear response: it flexes in direct proportion to pressure, so line variation is predictable and easy to control.
- Expressive control: it renders starts, stops, flicks and sweeps precisely, especially in Japanese calligraphy and cursive writing.
Available in Fine (F) and Medium (M).
Long body, stable balance
The Travia adapts the Decade's flat-top design to a longer body, with a metal balancer at the center of the barrel. The grip section is metal too, bringing the center of gravity closer to the fingertips and keeping the pen balanced during long writing sessions.
- Unposted: a low, very stable center of gravity.
- Posted: the weight settles into the hand and brings out the nib's light, airy feel.
Black and ruthenium: understated elegance
The trim has a black plating with a subdued shine, and the ruthenium nib adds depth. The look is modern and luxurious, ideal for business settings: next to your planner, on your desk or in a breast pocket.
Slip & Seal: ink that never dries out
Like the whole #3776 Century series, the Travia features the Slip & Seal mechanism, a fully airtight cap. In the manufacturer's tests, ink stays practically intact after 24 months with the cap closed. The pen is ready to write even after long periods without use.
